Help

Plob is a page of big picture tiles: one click takes you to the site you want. It is yours to arrange - add the sites you use, remove the ones you don't, and drag them into the order you like. Plob remembers your page, with no sign-up and no password. This page walks through every part of it.

Your Plob link

Your page is stored against a number that plob keeps in a cookie in your browser. Your Plob link is the same number as a web address, so you can get your page back from any browser or device, and even if you clear your cookies. Keep the link somewhere safe - save it as a bookmark, or email it to yourself.

Your personal link appears here once plob has given you a page of your own. Open the homepage, then come back to this page and the link will be here, ready to copy.

The homepage

This is the plob page you land on. Across the top-left is the local time and date, and the weather for your area when plob can work it out.

  1. Search box. Type to find a tile, then add it to your page or remove it. See Adding and removing tiles.
  2. Most used. The tiles you click most, or that everyone does. See Most used.
  3. Section bar. Plob is your own page. The others (News, Shopping and so on) are shared catalogues of sites. See Sections.
  4. More. The sections that don't fit on the bar, and Top100.
  5. A tile. Click it to go to the site. Hover over it to see what it is and its web address. Drag it to move it.

Type at least two letters into the search box and matching tiles appear below it. You can type more than one word, in any order: maps google and google maps both find Google Maps. Plob shows up to 40 results, with names that match first, then keywords, then descriptions. Hover over a result to see its category and web address.

Press Add to put a tile on your page, or Remove to take it off. The page reloads with your change. Tiles are never lost: if you remove one you can add it back from the search box at any time.

Most used

Click Most used beside the section bar for a quick list of the tiles that get clicked most. Tiles you don't have yet are marked with an Add to homepage button.

  1. Personal. The tiles you click most yourself.
  2. Global. The tiles clicked most by everyone who uses plob.
  3. A row. Click it to visit the site.
  4. Add to homepage. Puts a tile you don't have yet on your own page.

Sections and the More menu

The bar under the search box splits plob's tiles into sections. Plob is your own page. The others are shared catalogues, with the most popular tiles first; they are the same for everybody and can't be rearranged. The sections that don't fit on the bar are under More, which also has Top100.

  1. Section bar. Click a name to see that section's tiles. Click Plob to come back to your page.
  2. More. Opens the rest of the sections. Click anywhere else, or press Esc, to close it.
  3. Top100. The most-clicked tiles on the whole site.

Reordering tiles

On a computer, click a tile, hold the button down, drag it to where you want it and let go. The other tiles shuffle along to make room, and plob saves the new order straight away.

On a phone or tablet, press and hold a tile for about a second, until it lifts (and your phone gives a short buzz), then drag it. This is deliberate: tiles never move by accident while you scroll.

Reordering only works on your own Plob page. The section pages, Top 100, Latest and Kids show a fixed, shared layout.

Top 100

Top 100 shows the 100 most-clicked tiles on the whole site, most clicked first. Choose All Time or a single year; older years are under More. Hover over a tile to see its web address.

  4. A tile. The most clicked tile comes first, at the top left. Click it to visit the site.

Latest

Latest lists the 60 newest tiles added to plob, newest first. It is a good place to look for something new. Find it with Plob Latest at the bottom of any page.

Plob Kids

Kids on the section bar opens Plob Kids, a page of tiles chosen for children. It has its own logo, and it is the same for everyone: there's no search box, and the tiles can't be moved.

  2. Kids. The section bar link that opens this page.
  3. A tile. Click it to visit the site.

Suggesting a tile

If a good site isn't on plob, suggest it. Choose Suggest at the bottom of the page (it only appears once you've used plob before), fill in the form and send it. Suggestions are reviewed by a person and new tiles are added by hand, so a suggestion isn't guaranteed to become a tile. To help tell real suggestions from spam, plob keeps your visitor ID and IP address with each one.

  1. Website address. The site you want to suggest.
  2. Name. What the tile should be called.
  3. Section. Optional: where you think it belongs. Choose Not sure if you don't know.
  4. Send suggestion. Sends it to the plob team.

Setting plob as your homepage

Use your Plob link, not plain plob.uk, so you always land on your own page. Copy it with the button above, then set it as the homepage in your browser:

Menus move around between browser versions. If you can't find a setting, search your browser's help for “set homepage”.

Using your page on another device

  1. Copy your Plob link and send it to yourself, in an email or a message.
  2. Open it on the other computer, tablet or phone.
  3. Set it as that device's homepage, or bookmark it (see above).

Both devices now show the same page, and a change made on one appears on the other. Without the link, a new device starts with the default plob page and its own separate layout.
